A Hebridean History is a book written by Donnelly in the 18th century. It is a source of information frequently used by the narrator to explain landmarks and events on the island. It talks about the shepherd Jakobson who constructed the bothy on the mainland to secure him a wife and property.

  • Dan Pinchbeck confirmed the actual existance of the book in the world of Dear Esther. It is not a fantasy of the narrator, and can be considered real.[1]
